With marijuana reform passing all over the country, many believers are bound to have questions that require REAL answers and not the fake church propaganda currently being pushed. What follows is the most complete and truthful study on marijuana and the Bible you will ever read.
Did God Create Marijuana?
According to the Bible God created marijuana and saw that “it was good”. Don’t let any false teacher tell you that the devil created marijuana or that he manipulated marijuana after it was created. That’s made up church nonsense.
“And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.” – Genesis 1:11-12
Marijuana or Cannabis is considered to be a flowering herb. It also produces seeds, so it is indeed covered in the creation of plants that God saw as good. There is no indication anywhere in the Bible that it was not included in the Genesis text, and anyone that tells you otherwise without showing you the book, chapter, and verse is lying to you.
God Told Humans It’s OK To Consume Marijuana
While it might not be a popular thing to say, it’s the hard truth church leaders don’t want to talk about, and when they do talk about it they come up with every rebuttal under the sun… except for a Bible verse. Here is the exact verse where God tells humans we’re allowed to use weed:
“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” – Genesis 1:29
As already proven, marijuana does bear seed, and we know for a fact it is on the earth. At this point we usually encounter the annoying technicality person: “the Bible says it’s for food.” Let’s take this a step further because marijuana was in the Garden of Eden just like every other plant, and God said the following:
“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” – Genesis 2:16-17
Adam and Eve were free to consume EVERY tree in the garden except one. In fact, it is the ONLY plant in all of scripture that is named as off limits to consume. Unless a church leader can offer evidence from scripture that marijuana was the Tree of The Knowledge of Good and Evil… then they have no basis for adding it to a list of things we can’t consume.
- If you’re not sure about smoking but still want to use marijuana, you can REST ASSURED that edibles are 100% cleared and condoned by the Bible for consumption. Eating a bud brownie is no more sinful than eating a slice of apple pie.
- If anyone tells you different make them show you the Bible verse where it prohibits eating any herb that bears seed. If they can’t its because they’re lying.
Marijuana Was Made For The Human Body
This isn’t speculation of any kind. We know that marijuana produces cannabinoids and we know that human beings have cannabinoid receptors. A logical person would look at this and realize that God doesn’t make mistakes. An illogical person looks at this and says “well everything changed after the fall of mankind.”
- There are no verses in the Bible that define any plant as sinful to use after the fall of mankind.
Because there aren’t any verses that say otherwise, we can only assume that the same Creator that made marijuana also knew what he was doing when he made receptors in the human body to receive input from marijuana.
- If anyone tells you that using marijuana isn’t for the human body, ask them why God created humans with cannabinoid receptors.
- If anyone tells you that God did not create the human body with cannabinoid receptors, they’re lying. Science has already proven that the human body was made that way.
Is Marijuana Harmful To The Body?
One of the favorite rebuttals of false teachers is to claim that marijuana is a sin because it is harmful to the human body. According to the Bible we’re to judge all things EQUALLY. So if their argument is that putting harmful things in the body is sin, then they MUST also add the following items to their made up list of sins:
- Prescription Drugs (read the list of side affects on the bottle)
- Soda & Most Fountain Drinks (damages the liver and kidneys)
- Fried Food (causes clogged arteries and high blood pressure)
If we judge all things equally as we should, then anyone preaching against marijuana but enjoys eating friend food and washing it down with a soda is a HYPOCRITE. If we keep digging we could find a ton more examples, but don’t expect any anti marijuana hypocrites to teach the whole truth.
Marijuana Is Good For The Human Body
If using marijuana is a sin then why are there so many health benefits to using it? Now that more studies on marijuana are being conducted, we’re getting scientific proof that marijuana has the following benefits:
- Alleviates nausea (source).
- Restores appetite to chemo patients (source).
- Helps insomniacs sleep (source).
- Relieves physical pain (source).
- Reduces severe seizures (source).
This is what I like to call “stacking the evidence” against false teachers. Let’s just use a little bit of logic and common sense to see if using marijuana is a “sin”.
- God made marijuana which produces cannabinoids.
- God made the human body with cannabinoid receptors.
- Marijuana has scientifically proven benefits when used.
- The Bible is 100% silent on marijuana use being a sin.
The claim that using marijuana is a sin is nothing more than a LIE created by church leaders to control their congregation into not doing something they personally don’t approve of. They use their position of leadership and influence to commit blasphemy by adding “sins” to the Bible that aren’t there… or in essence they change God’s word to fit their personal beliefs instead of changing their personal beliefs to fit God’s word. People like this ARE NOT fit to be leaders in the church.
“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” – Proverbs 30:5-6
Once again… if a church leader cannot show you an exact book, chapter, and verse… it doesn’t matter how much explanation they give… they’re a lying false teacher. Before we continue, it seems like a great time to point out that the United States government currently holds a patent on marijuana:
Marijuana Is NOT Pharmakeia
Some believers just love when they get their hands on a new word. One of those words is pharmakeia (the origin of the word pharmacy). I have personally witnessed many believers misuse this word when attempting to prove that marijuana use is a sin. So let’s take a look at the actual definition of pharmakeia so that we know for a fact these people are lying when they use it in a debate.
- Pharmakeia (Strong’s #5331) – the use of medicine, drugs, spells, magic, sorcery, enchantment.
When we dig more into the word we find that it is a word that is mostly associate with potions and other “magical” concoctions, but was NEVER used to refer to plants in their natural form.
- Marijuana is not magic.
- Marijuana is a plant that grows naturally.
- Marijuana does not fit the definition of pharmakeia.
The Purpose of Marijuana May Be Spiritual
Marijuana has been used in spiritual practices for thousands of years by multiple cultures that have nothing in common other than a belief in a higher power and weed. If we take a second look at the cannabinoid concentration in the picture above, we notice that they’re most highly concentrated in the areas referred to as “chakras” by the Hindu religion.
In India marijuana is smoked during the festival of of Shiva Ratri (The Night of Shiva) and turned into edibles calls bhang during the spring festival of Holi. Rastafarians are well known for using marijuana, but what many people don’t know is that they consider it to be a sacrament, and use it in the worship of The Most High.
- Sacrament – a religious ceremony or act of the Christian Church that is regarded as an outward and visible sign of inward and spiritual divine grace, in particular.
While I don’t endorse any belief systems outside of the Bible, it’s important to understand that the two above belief systems have nothing in common other than marijuana. If we do enough digging, we eventually run into a set of instructions in the Bible that may have included marijuana.
Marijuana and The High Priest of Israel
After the Exodus God gave Moses and Aaron instructions to make oil out of several ingredients. One of those ingredients was kaneh bos (singular) and kaneh bosem (plural), which sounds very similar to cannabis. The Bible translates the word as calamus, but Google translate renders the Hebrew word for cannabis as kanebes, which is very close to kaneh bos.
“Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus (kaneh bosem) two hundred and fifty shekels..” – Exodus 30:23
Marijuana In The Book of Ezekiel
“Damascus was thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool. Dan also and Javan going to and fro occupied in thy fairs: bright iron, cassia, and calamus (kaneh bosem), were in thy market.” – Ezekiel 27:18-19
Since we’re talking about Biblical times, to our knowledge there was no known process to breed CBD heaven plants, which means the oil of the High Priest literally made them high priests. They were anointed with the special oil, which was then absorbed by the skin. The anointing oil was applied to the head, which is where the most cannabinoid receptors are found, and also where the 6th and 7th chakras ( awareness & spirituality) are located (according to Hinduism).
- When it comes marijuana use in religion it is seen as a spiritual enhancement… except in conservative “Christianity”.
- When it comes to marijuana use in religion it is often embraced and not demonized… except in conservative “Christianity”.
Conservative “Christianity” as a terrible habit of supporting evil and rejecting good. We can see this in the candidates they vote for and the policies the support. The Bible calls what Trump did adultery, but conservatives down play it to “locker room talk”. So it’s not surprising that conservatives would demonize something that God calls “good”.
Marijuana Use Outside of The Human Body
When we start talking about the multiple uses of marijuana outside of getting high and being used for medicinal purposes, we see that it has LOTS OF BENEFITS to mankind, but unfortunately we have moron conservatives opposing God’s creation.
- Bio Diesel
- Building Material
Most of the above comes from hemp, but hemp is classified as marijuana, which means we don’t get the benefits of using hemp thanks to conservatives and their continued support of outdated anti marijuana laws.
Opposition To Marijuana Is Opposition To God
If God created marijuana and saw that “it was good”, then any church leader saying ANYTHING opposite of that is in opposition to God. The Bible says don’t add anything to God’s word, which means any church leader saying MARIJUANA is a sin, but can’t show you in the Bible is violating God’s word.
- Plants cannot be evil because plants can’t follow or break laws.
- Plants cannot be evil because God said they were good.
We’ve been letting these false teachers skate for far too long by not requiring them to provide scripture to back each and every single claim they make.
The Most Harmful Thing About Marijuana
The most evil side affect of marijuana is mass incarceration. We know that opposition to marijuana was started for RACIST reasons and then reinforced with LIES and DECEPTION… the very things Satan is all about, and a lot of anti marijuana “Christians” support this evil.
- Taking away people’s freedom over a plant is evil and immoral.
- Taking away people’s possessions (house, car, etc.) is evil and immoral.
If your pastor is supporting the above evils, they may not actually be a Christian. No Christian outright opposes God’s creation while supporting slavery though mass incarceration and theft by civil forfeiture. They can’t find either of those concepts in the Bible as punishment over using a plant that God “saw was good”.
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” – Isaiah 5:20
Those that oppose marijuana clearly fall into this category of calling good evil and evil good. God said it was good, and yet we have “Christian” leaders calling it bad. So do you believe God or do you believe man? God even goes as far as to wish misery (woe) on people that make unjust laws like we see when it comes to the war on marijuana.
“Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless. What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?” – Isaiah 10:1-3
The racist “War On Drugs” has been used to oppress people of color for decades now, which is the real reason Republicans and conservative “Christians” support them. Below you’ll find a REAL ARGUMENT for making marijuana illegal… and as you can probably guess, the majority of people locked up for marijuana are black.
The church has made marijuana into a moral issue by falsely claiming that the plant is evil and using it is a sin. The church has also done a great disservice to humanity by backing policy that strips away people’s freedom over a plant that God created to be used. Church leaders that demonize God’s creation, but can’t provide Bible verses are false teachers and should not be trusted. If they’ll lie to you about something like a plant, they’ll lie to you about everything else.
- The Bible 100% supports consuming marijuana as an edible.
- The Bible 100% supports marijuana oils, lotions, etc., as long as it’s not the same recipe as the holy oil for the High Priest.
- The Bible is 100% silent about smoking marijuana, and church leaders don’t get to create a list of new “sins” based on their own false beliefs and moral superiority complex.
Frequently Asked Questions About Marijuana
Please read through these questions before sending a message or leaving a comment. This list was compiled based on personal experience and research. It’s time we stop letting old, outdated, and out of touch conservative fossils lie to us about marijuana. Actual believers and followers of Christ have no reason to lie about a plant.
Are you trying to justify using marijuana?
There’s nothing to justify. God never told us not to use it. Church leaders fabricated doctrine out of their own personal opinions and told us not to use it.
Has anyone ever died from using marijuana?
Nope. That’s a lie that some church leaders tell in order to justify their lies. If you know a church leader that makes up stuff like this, ask them for the name of the person that died from using marijuana. After they fail to give it to you (they never have a name), ask them for the source of their information. If they tell you to “look it up” or any variation of that response… it’s BS and you should stop dealing with them and their ministry immediately.
Will I Lose My Salvation If I Smoke Marijuana?
Nope. This is another lie pushed by church leaders. There isn’t a single verse in the Bible that says we can lose our salvation by smoke or eating a planet.
Am I making marijuana an idol by smoking?
Nope. Again… more lies pushed by church leaders. Anything they don’t like is an “idol” if someone else does it. They make these false claims to scare people into obedience. Using marijuana is no more idolatrous than consuming soda.
My pastor said marijuana is not a good use of God’s money.
Pastors tend to grasp at any argument they can when they have a personal issue with a plant. They claim it’s not using God’s money wisely… while they sip their $5.00 cup of Starbucks coffee that they could’ve gotten from 7-11 for under $1.00. They’re hypocrites that will pay 5x the price for a beverage with a goddess on it while telling you that buying marijuana isn’t being studious with the money God gave you. One false teaching website wrote the following:
“People are spending 20 dollars a gram for a few hours high. Is it really worth it? People are making extremely poor decisions and the devil is promoting this through worldly music.” – False Teaching Website
Meanwhile, no mention of spending $20 to go to the movies, $20 on video games, $20 on Christmas cards, etc… all things that bring enjoyment for a few hours or less… NONE of them beneficial to anyone financially in the long run. Yet they classify $20 on a plant that God made as a “waste”, which shows their lack of faith and respect for The Most High. Another sign that they’re false teaching is that they don’t allow comments. A common tactic among false teaching websites.
Don’t listen to these snakes. I can guarantee you that no pastor “needs” a flat screen tv or any other luxuries that they may have… but they still have em. If weed is your “luxury”, then enjoy it and don’t let any false teacher guilt you until feeling bad about it. They certainly don’t feel bad about buying a $30,000 car when a $15,000 car will get them from point A to point B all the same.
Am I just using marijuana to satisfy my flesh?
This is another thing lying church leaders say to control the victims of their false teaching. Marijuana is a plant just like any other plant. It’s not good or evil to consume it.
Am I giving over control of my body to something else?
I’m not sure where church leaders get some of their claims, but it’s certainly not science or the Bible. Smoking marijuana IS NOT giving your control to something else. A plant doesn’t suddenly take over your mind and start making decisions for you after it has been cut down, dried out, and then set on fire. It’s dead plant matter. It has no more control over your mind than caffeine has over the coffee drinking hypocrite that tells people this nonsense. Every decision you make while high is a decision that you want to make anyway, but may not have had the courage to make.
Is weed a gateway drug?
This is the biggest lie floating around in the church. I’ve been a marijuana user since 8th grade and I’ve never had the sudden urge to try crack or heroine… and neither has anyone I know. The FACT is caffeine is classified as a drug by the government. The other fact is 99% of people use caffeine long before marijuana, which seems to me that caffeine would be the actual gateway drug… but we know that most hypocrites of the cloth won’t give up their addiction nor will they stop giving the drug to their children. What they will do is make excuses for it by saying “caffeine isn’t the same as marijuana”… We know it’s not the same because caffeine is a stimulant drug, while marijuana is a suppressant… and BOTH come from a plant. Unless these snakes can explain what makes one plant OK to consume and the other evil… ignore this false BS. You will not suddenly develop an urge to pop pills because you smoke weed.
Do verses about alcohol apply to marijuana?
This is another sneaky tactic of snakes in church leadership positions. They WRONGLY try to grasp at verses about alcohol and apply them to marijuana, but not to plants the produce stimulant drugs like caffeine. Anyone that has ever been high vs drunk KNOW FOR A FACT that these aren’t even remotely close to the same thing. Many drunk people have a proven history of violent behavior, while marijuana causes most people to relax and feel stress free for a while. You should get far away from any ministry trying to push this lie to its congregation.
My pastor says marijuana doesn’t have any medicinal value.
Your pastor is a moron. If your pastor isn’t a doctor or a scientist, please disregard whatever BS they’re trying to teach you about the scientific and medical uses of marijuana. Most of the morons in charge of churches are too dumb too realize that 99% of all medicines are extracted from plants and other parts of nature. To say that marijuana is the one plant that doesn’t is asinine. If marijuana didn’t have any medical benefits, the U.S. government wouldn’t hold a patent on it for having medical benefits. Some of these pastors need to step into 2018, use Google, and stop using Reefer Madness as their research material.
My pastor says weed is just as bad as tobacco.
I’ll let the internet answer this one.
Why are you so mean to people against marijuana?
Because they’re liars. I would respect them more if they were just honest and admitted to wanting to control people, but they aren’t. They lie to push their agenda. I can’t even say that they’re twisting scripture because what they’re teaching can’t even be found in scripture. They’re literally making up their own doctrine and telling people it’s God’s word.
- They fabricate information and refuse to provide sources when challenged.
- They misapply scriptures that have nothing to do with marijuana.
- They get defensive when their lies are exposed instead of apologizing for false teaching.
All of the above is wrong and sinful. People that lie to people looking to them for spiritual guidance don’t deserve an ounce of respect from me or anyone else nor do they deserve to be in leadership positions. If a pastor will lie to you over a plant, they’ll lie to you about everything else they’re teaching.
