For those of you that haven’t heard the news yet, Pope Benedict XVI is stepping down at the end of the month.
“The unexpected development – the first papal resignation in nearly 600 years – surprised governments, Vatican-watchers and even his closest aides.” – BBC News
If you don’t know why this MIGHT be so important, it is because of a prophecy made by Saint Malachy concerning the final 112 popes of human history. The accuracy of the list is amazing. The current pope was supposed to be the second to the last pope. Here are his exact words concerning the last pope that would take the stage:
“Petrus Romanus, qui paſcet oues in multis tribulationibus: quibus tranſactis ciuitas ſepticollis diruetur, & Iudex tremẽdus iudicabit populum ſuum. Finis.”
If you don’t read Latin, here is the English translation of that text.
“Peter the Roman, who will nourish the sheep in many tribulations; when they are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The end.”
While the Bible is the only book containing prophecies that I put my faith it, it is very hard to ignore someone that has accurately predicted that last 112 popes without fail, after claiming that he had a vision from God.
I will freely and readily admit that I have no idea what this means in the grand scheme of things, because the pope and his role in the end times is not 100% clear in the Bible. There are speculations and theories concerning the Harlot in Revelation being associated with the Catholic Church, but as with anything, there are differing opinions on that too. My personal advice would be to watch, pray, and wait to see what happens before jumping on any bandwagon that is making outrageous claims.
“So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns… And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH… And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.” – Revelation 17: 3,5,9
